A NEW BEGINNING

Introduction

            I have decided to start from a new place in my writings at this site. Since what I really want, is to effect change in our world in a positive way, I have rethought my approach. I have come to the conclusion, that the world’s problems are a simple reflection of the conflicts within us. This is where it gets tricky. What I write here might upset a few people. In fact, I believe it could upset many people. That is because I wish to challenge many closely held precepts. Mostly, in the area of Religion or more precisely Spirituality, that is the application of spiritualsearching to everyday life.

            I do not pretend to come from any given religion. My background is Christian (Mormon) but I have studied many different theologies. Aldous Huxley wrote about what he called the perennial philosophy, which is the truths that are distilled out when one boils down all religious teachings. You might be surprised to learn how much we all have in common in our spiritual beliefs.

            I do not know if any of you remember the movie “Enemy Mine” with Dennis Quaid and Lou Gossett Jr., it is a science fiction flick involving intergalactic war between humans and a reptilian species. The protagonists are stranded on an alien planet together and need to get along to survive. While the Drac character explains his species religion to the earthling, he reads from his holy book, that “one should treat others as one would like to be treated.” When the human comments that is just like what Jesus taught, the Drac replies, “of course, truth is truth!”
