A CALL TO ACTION!

Ignorance is Bliss!

There are a couple of things you will be hearing a lot of in the next few days and weeks. They are related. The first is the call for a tax against “excessive profits” of the oil companies. The second is a call to raise the minimum wage. Both of these demands are based upon ignorance of simple economics principle and political pandering. The so called Windfall Profit Tax has been tried before. The results were a further dependence on foreign oil. The price of oil is set by the world market. Just like any commodity the greater the demand the greater the price. If a company is making money from a given product they will in turn invest some of their profits in making more of it! Mostly because of environmental regulations we are not producing the amount of American oil that we could. My guess is that you have not been told the truth about the Arctic Wildlife Refugee oil field. Additionally we could be producing a significant amount of new oil by off shore development in both the Atlantic as well as the Pacific oceans.

Those who constantly beat the drum of “alternative sources” never seem to mention or even understand that these technologies are not economically viable. If they were, I assure you, people would be developing them like crazy. That is how our market works. The same environmentalists who refuse to let us develop our domestic oil supplies and refining capabilities also fight building new BEEPs, nuclear power plants and even wind mill farms if it might interfere with their view. Many politicians know all of this but in their desire to get reelected they ignore reality and cry for “an investigation”. Well we have investigated previously to no avail! You cannot change reality no matter how much you try. All you can do is muck things up further by meddling in matter where you have no real control.

As far as the minimum wage is concerned, once again every action as an equal reaction. Only a small percentage of heads of households make minimum wage. By far the greatest numbers of minimum wage earners are teenagers or students. Why, because they lack experience and marketable skills. As one gains experience, etc one moves up the ladder. So if you raise the minimum wage the result will be that the poorer and less skilled will be employed even less. This is a know fact. It has been demonstrated time after time. If find it ironic that those who claim to be the advocates of the poor are usually the same ones who call on raising the minimum wage!!! Americans have to stop living in fantasy world. This is another example of the failure of our educational system to teach simple facts about how our society works. But then again maybe that is the reason why are schools continue to fail its students in providing a useful education. That way politicians stay in power. Through an ignorant electorate who vote for fantasy programs and promises and forget just as easily,  instead of cold hard reality.

Peace

You said that one well!

I can't believe how many people want to blame the American Oil companies for the high prices. They only make 9 cents per gallon. The state of Utah on the other hand makes 34 cents per gallon. That's even higher than the Federal Governments 17 cent Tax.
