To get a taste of what type of professors we have at USU and what they are probably teaching our young people, you really need to read the Opinion page (A4) of the Herald Journal of Wednesday, Feb 15. Professor Graulich of the English Dept. wrote a weepy little story about recent Supreme Court confirmation hearings and how that affects us on the local level. She was worried that if her daughter or "one of our daughters got pregnant, she could not obtain an abortion in Cache Valley." She goes on to tell about a friend who accidently got pregnant but because she was able to obtain an abortion her life turned out wonderful. She forgot to mention the little life that was ended so abrutly in the most cruel manner without any choice or say in the matter. People in Cache Valley need to wake up and find out what is being taught at our university!

People in Cache Valley need to wake up and find out what is being taught at our university! I couldn't agree more! The people of this valley need to stand up and oppose these Professors. This is not just a problem throughout our community. These people are plaguing our Nation! They support everything from Terrorists who kill people, to the most vile of people right here at home. They teach kids to be tolerant and accept their views. Professors such as Ward Churchill can and should be asked to look for a new job. If we pay the Tax for these universities, we have the right to demand a certain level of moral criteria. If people want to teach tolerance for Sex, drugs, abortions, terrorism and all the other junk, they can start a private school of their own and do it. They have their first amendment rights. What they shouldn't have is a soapbox at the expense of the citizens. We can't say prayers in the schools, they shouldn't be able to do what they do ether. Stick to teaching math, English and so on. Teach things that will help people be successful in the work place. Oops I forgot, the work place represents capitalism. One more thing, these professors, socialists, atheists and so on have no right to complain about the latest Supreme Court Judge. We should be much more worried about their flagship Supreme Court Judge, Judge Ruth Bater Ginsburg. She would like to legalize the age of consent from 18 to 12. She also believes that there is a clear case for the legalization of polygamy. Seems scary to me! USU needs to get back to teaching and get rid of their political agenda on the public payroll.

Another viewpoint express by Ms. Graulich several months ago was a very virulent letter to the HJ condemning the war and the military. This lead to a reply by a Marine stating that the corp did not what winers and compliainers and it was best that they stay out. This then lead to another letter from a Mr. Bushman who complained about the Marine stating his opinion and hoping that his superiors would punish him for that. Then a letter from a Mr. Pehrson stated that any Marine had a right to state his opinion like any other citizen. This then caused to HJ editor to call the Pentagon to find out if Marines were allowed to state their opinion (which says volumns to me) and a reply from Mr. Bushman. At that point Mr. Pehrson really shut him down big time!! It was really great to read. Do any of you remember this?????

I believe that studies have shown that there is a liberal bias at universities. Why is this? Do conservatives go to subjects where politics isn't an issue such as Science and Engineering? Are there just less conservatives who try to be professors? It seems that some of the liberal arts positions pay a lot less and may be harder to support a family on. I don't think that there are a lot of jobless conservative professors. Maybe the time commitment is too much for conservatives. Any other ideas or even better, data?

You don't need studies to show the liberal bias at Utah State. All you have to do is sit through a high-level math class and listen to the professor laugh at republican politicians. In a math class! But that doesn't mean it affects us as much as supposed. The professor I speak of is one of my favorites, and most people just laugh at his liberalism, dismissing it as eccentricity. I don't know of anyone whose political views he has swayed.

Well, if the teacher wasn't laughing at the republicans, I would be. Of course, I laugh at democrats too. As for what is being taught at a university, I'm not too concerned with it. The people who go to universities are adults. I see no harm in them knowing what people go through and what their feelings are about things. Now I don't agree with abortion at the drop of a hat, but I also don't agree with outlawing it. If you have taught you child properly, then they should be able to come to a decision on their own as to what is right and what is wrong. And as I'm fairly certain you'll never tell them in an unbias manor why people have abortions, I see no problem with them understanding what people go through.
