When the government runs something it is almost always done very inefficiently and with absolutely terrible service.  I speak from personal experience.  I was born a Canadian.  As I have lived in the US I have had to deal many times with immigration.  This organization was run terribly years ago and then Homeland Security took over and a few minor things changed but it is still mostly terrible.  I finally received my US Citizenship Mar 2004, and I won't go into what a waste of time the ceremony was, but I lost my certificate.  When I moved to CT I filed for a new one, Mar 2005.  It is supposed to take up to a year to get a new one.  I called early May and asked them where it was.  Of course I had to be on hold for 1/2 an hour.  The guy told me that he didn't have it in my file that I had even applied.  He told me that there was nothing he could do to help me.  I would have to travel to the office in Murray and talk to somebody there.  There goes about $30 gas money plus half a day in time.  I went and showed them a cancelled check.  The lady I talked to took down my information and told me my file was in transit and she would contact me as soon as it came in.  I never heard from her again.  After waiting over a month I finally called the national number and after waiting 1/2 an hour again I was told that he couldn't do anything for me.  I would have to write a letter and hope I got a reply or drive all the way down to Murray again.  I sent to letter a few days ago and strangely enough I finally received my new certificate in the mail.  This is not my only terrible experience working with a government agency.  I have another terrible story about the CT DMV but I will spare you all the details.

My point is that if this was a company I would expect them to try to make me happy or they would lose my business after wasting so much of my time and resources for their mistakes.  If they didn't I wouldn't shop there anymore.  If the government does it though you don't have a choice.  If the employees are rude then what?  Not much you can do.  If you don't like their policies, tough.  Without competition organizations get lazy.

Do you both think you could do a better job at running Homeland Security? America is under attack! The war on terror has been going since the day the towers fell. Homeland Security should be stepped up if you ask me! We can't take our chances. We simply have to know who is coming in and why.

I am much more worried about losing liberties to the government. In the Book of Mormon it was not the Gadianton Robbers nor the Lamanites that destroyed the Nephite government. It was the secret combinations that inflitrated the highest levels of their government that destroyed them. Should the fed spend money on Homeland Security? It actually is one of their jobs to protect us so sure they should. Shoudl we go trillions in debt over it? No way.
